New Faculty at CC

Fourteen new faculty members join the CC community this year. These are teacher-scholars committed to student thriving and academic excellence, the advancement of ADEI, and the creative opportunities that CC’s Block Plan affords. 

Computer Science

BLAKE JACKSON ’16

Blake Jackson, a researcher in robot-human interactions, returns to CC to rejoin the department where he obtained his major.

BEN NYE

Ben Nye’s research is on natural language processing. He taught at CC last year and is known for his creative pedagogy that supports student learning at varied levels of prior experience.

Economics and Business

MICHELAN WILSON

Michelan Wilson is an environmental economist who studies the economic value of ecosystem services in fisheries production.

JUAN MIGUEL ARIAS ’12

Juan Miguel Arias was first recruited to CC as a Riley Scholar in Residence and will join the faculty as a special opportunity hire tenure-track member.

Environmental Science

ALLISON LAWMAN

Allison Lawman joins CC from CU Boulder and is a leader in climate change research using data from coral ecosystems. 

Film and Media

JORDAN LORD

Jordan Lord is a documentary filmmaker and has been featured as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces in Independent Film.”

Japanese

FRANCESCA PIZARRO

Francesca Pizarro joins CC from the University of Hawaii Manoa and will continue to enhance the college’s Japanese language curriculum, literature, and courses in Asian Studies.

Mathematics

REBECCA GARCIA

Rebecca Garcia was recruited as a special opportunity hire. She has directed the Mathematical Science Research Institute Undergraduate Program and other high profile undergraduate mathematics programs that advance ADEI.

Molecular Biology

SPENCER GANG

Spencer Gang comes to CC from UCSD, bringing his rich experience in student mentoring and research collaboration using C. Elegans models.

LIDIA CHANG

Lidia Chang not only brings her knowledge and passion for teaching music to CC, but also her public scholar and artist outreach. Listen to her podcast on the music of Jane Austen’s world.

Organismal Biology and Ecology

MAYBELLENE GAMBOA

Maybellene Gamboa brings her passion for teaching on the Block Plan and involves students in research in evolutionary biology of birds and conservation biology.

ROXANEH KHORSAND

Roxaneh Khorsand brings years of experience in teaching and research with students on climate change’s impact on tundra pollination ecology.

Paulina d. C. Inara Rodis brings expertise on the study of social networks through the identities of race, ethnicity, and gender.

JESSICA SANCHEZ FLORES

Jessica Sanchez Flores, a scholar of Indigenous literatures and Native feminisms, joins CC from UT Austin.
